Will get fluoride centre off the ground: KTR

June 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - NALGONDA:

Panchayat Raj Minister K.T. Rama Rao said he would clear all hurdles in getting the proposed Regional Fluorosis Mitigation and Research Centre (RFMRC), at Malkapur village in Nalgonda, off the ground.

Responding to a question during an interaction with reporters here, the Minister said he would discuss with concerned officials of the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) possible impediments to the project’s realisation. “All issues will be resolved to ground the project with immediate effect,” he said.

Rs.100-cr project

The RFMRC was sanctioned by the Union Government three years ago. The Rs.100-crore project proposes a 100-bed hospital to exclusively treat fluoride victims, besides taking up research on the fluoride content in water and its impact on people.

Eight acres for centre

The district administration had allotted eight acres at Malkapur village of Choutuppal mandal for the project, very close to NH-65 and only 40 kilometres from Hyderabad.

‘State behind delay’

Sources at NIN told The Hindu that the project was being delayed as the State government authorities showed no interest in launching it, though the Centre had already allocated Rs.10 crore for it.
