Six children lost their lives by drowning in two separate incidents in the State on Sunday. In a tragic incident, four children, including two brothers, aged between 12 and 14 years, drowned in a local tank at Narsapuram under the Padbanabham police station limits in Visakhapatnam district on Sunday evening.

The deceased were identified as K. Kalyan (14), K. Mohan (12), S. Vinay (14), J. Simhachalam (14). Kalyan and Mohan were brothers. It is learnt that the children had gone to the Pekkala cheruvu (local tank) for a bath after playing cricket in a nearby ground on Sunday evening. While taking bath, the four reportedly slipped into the water and drowned.

The incident came to light after a local resident alerted villagers after he found a cricket bat and clothes left on the shore around 7.30 p.m. A police team from Padmanabham, led by Inspector S. Kanta Rao, fished out the bodies with the help of locals.

In another incident, the bodies of two boys, both inmates of Loyola Premanivas at Machavaram village in Piduguralla mandal of Guntur district, who drowned in a pond, were fished out on Sunday. Saint Ann School Service Society (SASSS) director Sr. Marcella, who runs Loyola Premanivas, a home for children affected by HIV, said the two boys Yesobu (10) and Ramesh (12), drowned when they ventured into the pond located opposite Zilla Parishad High School on Saturday.
