The number of eligible voters for the forthcoming elections to the Lok Sabha has increased by over 15 lakh taking the total number of voters to 2.95 crore as against the 2.8 crore in the recent Assembly elections.

As expected, Hyderabad district topped the list with 41.62 lakh voters followed by Medchal-Malkajgiri with 23.4 lakh voters, Nalgonda (13.58 lakh) and Khammam district with 11.28 lakh.

The State election authority, the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, has published the final list of voters after completing the annual special summary revision of electoral rolls.

New voters

During the close to two-month exercise of summary revision which started on December 26, the election authority received 26.23 lakh applications, including 19.15 lakh through Form 6 for enrolment as new voters.

Over 2.5 lakh applications relating to objections on inclusion of names in the electoral roll (Form 7), 2.46 lakh applications seeking correction in the particulars entered in the electoral roll (Form 8), and 2.05 lakh applications relating to transposition of data (Form 8A) were also received.

The election authority had accepted 23.78 lakh applications and rejected 2.45 lakh applications during the scrutiny of these applications. In all, 1.95 lakh names of duplicate voters and 44,721 names pertaining to dead voters were removed after due verification.

Elector ratio

In the process, the elector population ratio (voters for thousand population) increased to 762 as against 738 and the gender ratio has increased to 989 against 982 of the previous revision.

A significant feature of the current summary revision has been the enthusiastic response from voters in the age group of 18 to 19 registering enrolment of 5.99 lakh new voters in the latest roll.

Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar said the election authority had decided to organise special camps for enrolment of genuine left out voters on March 2 and 3.

The booth level officers would be available on the two days with the relevant forms and all the new applications received during the special camps would be disposed off by March 14, the CEO explained.
