The United Breweries (UB) owned by Rajya Sabha member and business tycoon Vijay Malya has increased the wages of its employees considerably.
The plant is located at Mallepally village in Kondapur mandal of Medak district in Telangana.
An agreement was signed between Harman Preeth Singh, Vice- President, UB and Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) president B. Mallesham in the presence of Deputy Commissioner of Labour Mr. Koteswara Rao.
According to Mr. Mallesham, the minimum wage would be Rs. 22,230 while the maximum would be Rs. 44,490. The pay hike would come into force from 2015 April 1 and as many as 91 regular employees working in the industry would benefit from the agreement.
The increase in the wage for employee would be between Rs. 7,536 and Rs. 8,671 depending on the seniority. Similarly, the Mediclaim policy coverage has been increased from the existing Rs. 1.5 lakh to Rs. 2 lakh in addition to Rs. 5 lakh group personal accident policy and Rs. 5 lakh general insurance policy.
The management has also accepted to extend Rs. 1 lakh long term loan without interest and Rs. 1 lakh vehicle loan.
The 300 contract labourers working in the industry would also benefit as the DA will be revised every six months and some of them may be regularised in the long run.
The monthly plant capacity is about 20 lakh cases and each case consists of 12 bottles of beer.
This plant was established in 2009. According to Mr. Mallesham, breweries multinational Heineken got 33.5 per cent, Mr. Vijay Malya got 33.5 per cent while remaining are public shares.
“There is very less impact of Vijay Malya on the breweries industry and it got saved from the collapse,” said Mr. Mallesham.
