f plans of the city police go well, every nook and corner of Bhavaninagar area in old city will be under electronic surveillance, bringing down crime rate in the neighbourhood.

The south zone will be installing a few hundred High Definition (HD) cameras in different localities that come under Bhavaninagar and Rein Bazaar police station areas. The project that costs nearly Rs. 1 crore is being taken up with the help of MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds. “Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has given his consent for providing funds. We are on the job of preparing estimates and submitting it. Soon, the work of installation of the cameras will begin in several localities in Rein Bazaar and Bhavaninagar police station areas,” DCP (south) V. Satyanarayana said.

Works have already been taken up to identify spots in Talabkatta, Nashemannagar, Amannagar A & B and Yakutpura Bada Bazaar and its surrounding areas. “Cases pertaining to harassment by private financers, sexual harassment of women and goonda activities are frequently reported in these areas. A control room will be set up with cameras connected to it. A police team will keep a watch on the happenings,” the official explained.

In the last few weeks, the police also rounded up several persons for sitting in the neighbourhood till late at night and released them after counselling. Moreover, the police also feel that electronic surveillance will help in keeping a tab on trouble mongers during communal tension. “We can nip the trouble in the bud itself. In previous cases, it was noticed that a large number of anti-socials gathered in these thickly populated neighbourhoods and started trouble,” another police official said.
