Vidyanagar railway station joins all-women club

This is to commemorate International Women’s Day

The Vidyanagar MMTS railway station has joined Begumpet to function as ‘all-women station’ in the twin cities where women employees of the South Central Railway (SCR) will be manning all operations like security, commercial, checking and cleanliness from Thursday to commemorate the International Women’s Day.

SCR General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav said the New Guntur and Chandragiri stations (Guntur division) too would be functioning with women staff and by the end of the month, the Phirangipuram (Guntur) and Ramanavarrapadu (Vijayawada) stations would also join the exclusive club. The GM visited the Begumpet station in the morning, interacted with women employees and congratulated them. “The station will also look beautiful with you people manning it,” he told the delighted railway police personnel, booking clerks, checking staff, and senior officers gathered.

About 20% of SCR staff comprises women and they had played a stellar role in various capacities as loco pilots, commercial, station masters, technical, security, etc. in the zone becoming the best performer in the country. The Begumpet station is among the busiest, he said.
