The price of urea, a major fertiliser, will not be increased in the next four years, according to Union Minister of State for Petrochemicals and Fertilisers Hansraj Ahir. "Come what may, the price of a bag of urea will remain constant at Rs.268," he declared on Wednesday.

The Minister was addressing a press conference in Adilabad as part of his visit to the district in connection with celebration of completion of one year of the NDA Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He later addressed a public meeting at Nirmal town where the achievements of the Union Government were explained to the people.

Mr. Ahir said that the BJP Government was committed to the welfare of farmers which made it decide against increasing the price of urea for the remaining period of its rule at the Centre. He said that this will greatly help the farmers in containing investment on agriculture.

The Union Minister of State further said that the Government was committed to reviving the closed fertiliser manufacturing units across the country. The Ramagundam fertiliser factory in Karimnagar District of Telangana was a part of the revival project, he added.
