UGC grants autonomy to Tara Government College

University Grants Commission has granted autonomy status to Tara Government College located in the district headquarters.

Tara Government College is the ninth among 127 Government Colleges in Telangana State to get autonomy status.

More changes

Till now the College was affiliated to Osmania University. From now it will function as an autonomous college with more specified changes. As the process of autonomy begins the college will have semester system from next academic year.

In the previous system every degree student used to write exam for one year. In semester system the student has to write four internals and two semester exam.

It is the processing continuous evaluation system of education. In this college 93 percent students are from SC, ST, and BCs.

Autonomy status provides an opportunity to conduct certificate courses, study projects, seminars.

So far, in all the courses following the syllabus prescribed by the affiliated University. With the

Autonomy status, the college will have the faculty to change and modify 20 percent of the syllabus for the benefit of the student.

Based on the local requirements and to improve the standards of the students of this area the syllabus can be modified.

UGC will sanction Rs. 20 lakhs per annum for the academic improvements.
