The Special Operation Team of the Rachakonda police on Wednesday nabbed two persons and recovered 501 grams of gold and other material worth ₹ 25.5 lakh from them.

The investigating team said the duo Perika Ebby, 30, and Kathula Shiva Kumar, 27, private employees and residents of Boduppal in Hyderabad took to robberies, in order to lead a lavish lifestyle. On June 7, targeting State Bank of India at Bibinagar on the Hyderabad-Warangal highway, the accused broke into the bank at night with the help of power-cutting tools. But with power failure at the last moment, their attempt failed.

Following investigation, the police could nab the accused soon. It was discovered that they were involved in another bank robbery dating back to February 2016.

According to SOT police B. Sathyanarayana, Shiva Kumar and Ebby had broke into Andhra Bank’s lockers in Ghatkesar and made away with 4,000 grams of gold then. Three years later, they resumed the practice now for more needs, but were nabbed.

“Of the 4,000 grams, the accused sold about 500 grams for their lifestyle, and another 501 grams has been recovered today. The remaining is suspected to be with their siblings in Bangalore,” the officer said.

The police seized gold, two cars, a moped and mobile phones, all worth ₹ 25,52, 358. The full investigation into the robberies, to recover the loot, will continue.
