Tummala takes stock of modernisation works at Sagar

June 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - NALGONDA:

Road and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao expressed his disappointment over the progress of Nagarjunasagar canal modernisation works.

Mr. Nageshwar Rao, along with Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao and Energy Minister G. Jagadishwar Reddy inspected the modernisation works of Left Bank canal and sub-canals after conducting a review meeting with officials in the district administration and Irrigation Department.

Stating that the modernisation of canals was taken up seven years ago at a cost of Rs. 4,440 crore, the R&B Minister said works were proceeding at snail’s pace and they were also of poor quality. Asking the contractor to expedite works, Mr. Rao said they would initiate action if works were not completed on time.

The Minister said that the Telangana government was committed to supplying irrigation water to the ayacut under Left Canal in Khammam and Nalgonda districts during Kharif.
