Minister for Forests Jogu Ramanna has called upon all sections of society to participate in a massive plantation drive as part of the ‘Telanganaku Harita Haram’ programme, which will begin from July 3.
Participating in a review meeting on the preparedness of the district administration for the Harita Haram programme along with Minister for IT K. Taraka Rama Rao in Karimnagar town on Wednesday, Mr. Ramanna said that the district authorities had chalked out plans to increase the area of forest coverage from the existing 21.39 per cent to 33 per cent in three years by planting 5.2 crore saplings.
40,000 saplings in
each village
He said that the plantation programme would be launched on July 3 and would continue till September-October.
He said that they would plant 40,000 saplings in each villageand take measures for its protection also.
He urged the authorities to involve elected representatives in all villages and launch awareness programmes on the importance of planting saplings.
Minister for Panchayat Raj and IT K. Taraka Rama Rao said that Harita Haram was the pet programme of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and called upon district officials to emerge as role models in Telangana in the implementation of the programme.
He also asked police authorities to adopt villages and take up massive plantation drives.
Taking into consideration the ambitious Water Grid programme, he asked the authorities to ensure that saplings were not removed while laying pipelines. He said that Telangana had set a milestone in the country by planting a record 230 crore saplings.
Chief Whip Koppula Eshwar urged the authorities to prepare village-level plans for the successful implementation of the plantation programme by involving all sections of society. State cultural council chairman and legislator Rasamayi Balakishan said that they would launch awareness programmes through cultural programmes.

Sangareddy Staff Reporter adds: Collector Rahul Bojja has directed officials to get ready for Harita Haram, one of the flagship programmes of the State government.
Participating in the constituency-level officers’ meeting held here on Wednesday, Mr. Rahul Bojja said that the Harita Haram programme would be held from July 3 to July 10 and about 3.52 crore saplings would be planted in the district.
Stating that the one should also plan for the protection and growth of the saplings, he said that each village should plant about 30,000 saplings and 40 lakh in a constituency.
Plantation should be taken up in all vacant spaces at government schools and offices, he further added.

The officials were also directed to create a Facebook page for the campaign, which will be formally inaugurated on Thursday. Officials were also directed to provide tree guards wherever possible.
