Mahatma Jotirao Phule Vedika, called ABCDE, a forum of intellectuals from backward classes, alleged that the TRS government in Telangana has been neglecting BCs as it has not taken any major decision about their welfare/development so far.
Chairman of ABCDE Prof. K. Murali Manohar and other office-bearers such as Prof. I. Thirumali, Prof. P.L. Vishweshwar Rao and Prof. Ravinder said Telangana was the only State in the country where 60 per cent of the population comprised BCs, but none of the 43 decisions taken by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao so far had anything for the majority communities.
Key roleThey felt that BCs, who played a key role in the Telangana movement, needed a comprehensive policy for their development as their livelihood activities were being usurped by industrialisation. In association with Institute for the Empowerment of Backward Classes (IEBC) they were conducting an intellectuals’ meet for preparing an agenda for BCs’ development on September 28 in which representatives of political parties would also take part, they stated.
The meet would prepare an agenda for BCs’ development and work for its implementation by the government, the professors said adding that neglect of BCs all these years could be summed up in the simple fact that there was no data on their socio-economic status available with any government agency, including the Planning Commission.
