The election Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is being observed more in breach in old unified Adilabad district with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti’s (TRS) violations sticking out like a sore thumb as it is the only party which has launched its election campaign.
Ministers Jogu Ramanna and A. Indrakaran Reddy and Telangana State Dairy Development Cooperative Federation chairman Loka Bhuma Reddy are continuing to use their official transport vehicles and Mr. Bhuma Reddy has used the ZP Guest House on September 29.
On Sunday, the TRS painted some localities like Mochi galli, New Kummariwada and New Housing Board pink with party flags flying on electric poles and roundabouts and tents erected on roads which constituted MCC violation according to election officials.
Roads occupied
The ‘decoration’ of localities was in connection with party’s election campaign.
“The Municipal authorities should have taken note and denied permission to pitch tents on public roads,” pointed out an official as he talked about the huge tent which occupied the road at Netaji Chowk in town. “We are helpless in this matter as our superiors themselves are ignoring the infringement,” he added.
On use of government vehicles a minister is reported to have informed election authorities that the government has sought permission to use bullet proof SUVs on payment of rent.
A reply is awaited in this regard, the minister is reported to have explained so that authorities allow him to use the vehicle.
Monitoring teams
“The clarification, if at all, needs to be sought by the State’s Chief Secretary and not ministers,” countered another official connected with election work. “The use of vehicles and government property for election campaign constitutes clear violation of the MCC,” he asserted.
The official however, added that monitoring violations at this juncture is a little difficult. “Teams which enforce the MCC are yet to be formed,” he explained.
