‘TRS should accord top priority to irrigation projects’

BJP leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy slams Water Grid project, Mission Kakatiya

June 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - WARANGAL:

The ruling TRS government should accord top priority to pending and ongoing irrigation projects, said BJP leaders.

A group of leaders and retired engineers, led by Nagam Janardhan Reddy, toured the reservoirs and projects in the district on Wednesday and Thursday. “Works on about 28 projects are under way and they are 94 per cent complete. The government should now focus on finishing them,” he said. There are problems such as land acquisition among others. The Chief Minister constituted a Cabinet sub committee, but he should also delegate powers to it to take decisions. “The Telangana movement focused on more water, jobs, resources and so on. Now, the project costs are escalating and construction of feeder channels and distributory canals are yet to be taken up. Why is the government not focusing on this issue?” Mr. Nagam Janardhan Reddy sought to know. The TRS leadership made several promises such as free KG to PG education, land to SCs and many more. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has been promising heaven and moon without understanding that projects may take longer to finish than he thinks. “The other day, he promised a project in two years in Nalgonda. But, in fact, it will take another ten years to complete the tunnel, which feeds water to the project,” he pointed out.

The BJP leader found fault with the Water Grid and Mission Kakatiya programmes. He demanded a probe into the Water Grid pipe supplies as he said it was intended to benefit the pipe company and similarly, the Mission Kakatiya project, which he said was aimed at benefiting party cadres. BJP leaders A. Ashok Reddy, N. Venugopal Reddy and others were present.
