The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party in Telangana has extended support to the National Democratice Alliance (NDA) nominee for President, Ram Nath Kovind.

Party president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao conveyed the TRS’ decision to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over phone. The decision was taken by Mr. Rao after “consulting the party colleagues”.

Earlier in the day, soon after the NDA’s decision to finalise the candidature of Mr. Kovind, the Prime Minister telephoned Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao and sought the TRS party’s support to the candidate.

According to the officials of the Chief Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister told the Chief Minister that “as per your suggestion we have decided upon a dalit candidate for the President’s election” and requested support.
