In the light of reservations expressed over its MLAs at the State committee meeting of TRS on Monday, the party president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has asked the TRS general secretaries and secretaries to probe their functioning and submit reports to him shortly. As a result, all of them are busy on the job these days.
Mr. Rao had himself announced at the press conference following the meeting that each of the general secretaries and secretaries were made in-charge of a cluster of three Assembly constituencies for the purpose.
Sources said the trigger for the probe was complaints by a couple of State committee members at the meeting that the MLAs had a negative image in the constituencies and that the party would suffer in the next elections if they were not replaced.
When questioned by Mr. Rao, the party leaders refused to identify the MLAs unless they were given a private audience with him. They were also said to have highlighted that the public had a good opinion about the performance of the government and the party but the style of functioning of the MLAs was a matter of concern.
Interestingly, Mr. Rao dismissed reports that some 40 MLAs were likely to be replaced as the surveys indicated they were on a weak wicket. “Take my word, no one will be replaced,” he remarked.
The TRS had already commissioned over half-a-dozen surveys by independent private agencies on the party chances in elections.
Mr. Rao told media persons that all of them gave the party victory in over a hundred Assembly seats.
More than the position of the party, sources added that the surveys revealed the popularity of Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao.
He was a bigger name than the welfare schemes of the government.
Therefore, it was suggested to the party that it go to elections with KCR as the face of TRS.
