Tribals to get pattas on forest land soon

Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna on Saturday said tribal farmers who were cultivating forest land before June 2014 even without pattas under the Forest Rights Act, 2006 can cultivate the forest lands. Such farmers would be given rights pattas soon, he added.

Performing ‘bhoomi puja’ for tanks’ desiltation works under Mission Kakatiya programme at Birsaipet in Utnoor mandal, the Minister, however, warned tribals not to cut trees expecting pattas on such land. If they do so, they would attract legal action, he added.

Reeling out statistics, Mr. Ramanna said 459 tanks in the district would be desilted during the second phase of Mission Kakatiya works. In Khanapur constituency alone, 15,000 acres of land would be irrigated once the works get completed, he added.

The desiltation of tank at Birsaipet is expected to irrigate 120 acres of land and the work costs Rs. 36.3 lakh.

Mr. Ramanna also garlanded the statue of Gond martyr Kumram Bheem at Donga Chinta. Khanapur MLA A. Rekha Naik accompanied him.
