The demand for carving out an Adivasi district with the Fifth Schedule areas of Khammam district is fast gaining pace as the activists of the Adivasi Samkshema Parishat (ASP) staged a rally and demonstration here on Tuesday in pursuit of their demand.

Adivasis from different corners of the district participated in a demonstration held under the aegis of the ASP district committee at the Dharna Chowk in front of the Collectorate here.

Addressing the demonstrators, the ASP district general secretary Easala Suresh said that the creation of Adivasi district holds key to prevent endless exploitation of natural resources including mineral wealth in Agency areas and safeguard the interests of Adivasis.

The government should fulfill the long cherished aspirations of Adivasis by carving out an Adivasi district as part of its proposed move to reorganise the districts in Telangana State, he said.

Krishna Sagar in Burgumpadu mandal near Bhadrachalam would be an ideal choice for serving as the headquarters of Adivasi district due to availability of abundant government lands in the area among other factors, he contended.

The ASP district president Soyam Kamaraju and others spoke.
