Thunder sound claims a life

A contract employee attached to the Government Ayurvedic Hospital here had an heart attack after reportedly hearing the deafening sound of thunder and subsequently died at the district headquarters hospital on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Swaroopa, 45, a field level functionary of the Government Ayurvedic Hospital here. Swaroopa suffered a cardiac arrest after hearing the frightening noise of the thunderstorm at her home in the morning. She died of massive heart attack soon after reaching the hospital, the sources added.

In a separate incident, three workers sustained injuries after lightning struck them while they were engaged in works taken up under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme at Allerugudem in Pinapaka mandal on Monday. They were rushed to the Primary Health Centre at Karakagudem.

The condition of one of them is stated to be serious.
