Indefinite strike by RTC employees remained aggressive despite police arresting V. Prabhakar, the leader of CPI (ML)-New Democracy, along with its cadres and RTC employees. Chaos prevailed for some time in Depot-I as both groups tried to prevent buses from coming out of the depots and continued deflating the tyres.
Earlier, the employees and workers took out a rally from Rajiv Gandhi Auditorium to bus depot and staged a dharna for preventing the unemployed youth from being recruited as temporary drivers and conductors. RTC authorities with the help of the police foiled the attempts of the protestors.
About 20 drivers were recruited on temporary basis to continue the services, said Y. Gangahar, Chief Traffic Manager. About 138 buses out of 639 plied on the second day.
Expressing hope that the management would mitigate the woes of passengers as efforts are being made to start more services, he said there was good response from unemployed youth to work as temporary employees.
