Jubilee Hall and the Public Gardens in Hyderabad are likely to be the venue for the State Formation Day celebrations.

Jubilee Hall and the Public Gardens in Hyderabad are likely to be the venue for the State Formation Day celebrations.

The State government proposes to conduct State Formation Day celebrations at a different venue other than Parade Grounds and not involve students in the parade as day temperatures are expected to be high.

The venue for the celebrations is likely to be Public Gardens lawns. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao directed Chief Secretary S.K Joshi to take a decision after a discussion with senior officers on the venue and format of celebrations.

Mr. Rao, in a review meeting here on Friday, instructed officials concerned to explore possibilities for organising the Independence Day, Republic Day and State Formation Day celebrations without causing inconvenience to the people in general, especially students, and the police and organise it in a more pleasant manner. The meeting also discussed change in the format of the celebrations and whether students, police jawans and others should be involved for the parade on June 2 State Formation Day celebrations. Many officers also said there was a possibility of heat wave on that day and schools would also be on vacation. It would not be proper to bring students from their homes and involve them in the parade and other activities. There were incidents in the past when police personnel as well as students became sick and fainted due to heat.

No parade

City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar’s proposal that instead of Parade Grounds it would be better to organise these celebrations at Public Gardens lawns, opposite to Jubilee Hall was well received in the meeting.

The officers also expressed a view that in most of the States, the police parade and parade by the students had been done away with and Telangana also could follow the same.

Other programmes

They also suggested that after flag hoisting and Chief Guest’s address on the State Formation Day, there could be At Home, Poet meet and awards presentation as part of celebrations.

Meanwhile, the meeting firmed up the programme for the State Formation Day. The programme would commence at 9 a.m. with flag hoisting, National Anthem by the Police Band, Guard of Honour, Chief Minister’s address. At 10.30 a.m., there would be At Home programme by the Chief Secretary in the Jubilee Hall premises, followed by a Poet Meet at 11 a.m. with Telangana State formation as the theme. In the evening, the Department of Culture would organise Award Presentation Ceremony.
