Sub-plan for BCs sought

June 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - WARANGAL:

The representatives of various political parties, people’s organisations and BC organisations demanded the Telangana government to bring out a BC sub-plan and make a legislation. The BCs, who constituted 50 per cent of population, were lagging in all sectors and there was no proportionate political representation as well, they said.

They were speaking at the State-level conference organised on the KU campus here on Sunday by the BC sub-plan Sadhana Committee.

Census

Addressing the conference, committee president Prof. K. Murali Manohar stressed the need for conducting a caste-wise census to know the exact population of the BCs in the State. The successive governments at the Centre as well as at State have not bothered about the development of the BCs.

Committee secretary M. Srinivas said that people of some castes in BCs, who are mainly nomadic, were leading miserable lives and some other castes were even not included in the category.

Survey

“As per the recent survey conducted by the TRS government, as many as 1.86 crore people belonged to 112 castes under BC category in the State. But, the State government gave a meagre allocation of funds in the budget,” he pointed out.

A declaration named after Warangal on BC sub-plan was unveiled on the occasion. The leaders of political parties also stressed the need for the BC sub-plan for the development of the BCs.

Prof P.L. Visweswar Rao, Prof I. Tirumali, CPI(M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram and several other leaders attended the meeting.
