Staff crunch hits Khammam employment exchange

May 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - KHAMMAM:

The District Employment Exchange, which is entrusted with the crucial task of playing a facilitator role in terms of enabling the job-seekers explore employment opportunities optimally, has been plagued by various deficiencies particularly staff crunch.

The exchange is lagging behind in meeting the expectations of the unemployed youth including those already registered with it and the prospective job-seekers in offering vocational guidance and career counselling to them.

It is yet to harness information technology and mobile messaging services in tune with the changing times for registering job-seekers online and keeping them well informed about the emerging employment opportunities in both private and government sectors in different spheres.

Shortage of staff is also taking a toll on the functioning of the exchange compelling it to virtually confine itself to mere registration of job- seekers, renewal of employment registrations, dissemination of information pertaining to job melas and few other activities.

Over 1.01 lakh job seekers possessing SSC, Intermediate and Degree qualifications had registered with the district employment exchange here, sources said.

An official is holding full additional charge as the district employment officer and the employment officer for vocational guidance at the district employment exchange. A senior assistant is holding full additional charge of the post of junior employment officer in the same exchange. A junior assistant post in the exchange remained vacant for a long, sources added.

Two more employment exchanges situated in Kothagudem and Bhadrachalam are also yet to cater to the needs of the job seekers of the district having youth belonging to tribal communities, sources said.
