Collector R V Karnan has underlined the need for spreading awareness among all sections of society on early diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis (TB) to effectively prevent and control the scourge.

Mr Karnan on Wednesday interacted with the family members of a TB patient in Pandurangapuram village under Khammam Municipal Corporation limits as part of an awareness campaign on prevention of TB, a curable disease.

Speaking on the occasion, he advised the villagers to ensure strict adherence to the treatment regimen by the TB patients. He further exhorted them to help the needy in effectively accessing the free diagnostic and treatment services available in the district headquarters hospital and other State-run hospitals.

Later, he addressed a gathering of students, teachers and villagers at an awareness meeting on collective efforts to eliminate TB held at the Zilla Parishad High School in the village.
