Satavahana varsity to steer with no captain?

In absence of permanent V-C and the Registrar retiring on August 31

The decade-old Satavahana University, which is already reeling under acute crisis in research, developmental activities and academics due to non-availability of a permanent Vice-Chancellor since last three and half years, is now going to face the administration problem with the existing Registrar retiring on August 31.

From September 1 onwards, the university will not have permanent V-C and the Registrar to take care of administration and other academic activities. Present Registrar M. Komal Reddy, professor in Chemistry and acting as full additional charge (FAC) Registrar since May 2014, would be retiring on August 31, making the post vacant from September 1 onwards. Though, the government had appointed then HMDA Commissioner and presently Commissioner and Inspector-General of Registration and Stamps T. Chiranjeevulu as the V-C, he was confined to Hyderabad because of his hectic activities in his department. The Registrar Komal Reddy used to frequently visit Hyderabad for securing the administrative sanctions and others works from the in-charge V-C. Now, the Registrar post also falling vacant from September 1, the administrative functions in the University is likely to suffer seriously.

Incidentally, the Vice-Chancellor role is crucial in the appointment of the new Registrar. With no regular V-C, the University authorities are worried about the appointment of the regular Registrar from September 1 onwards, to take up the regular administrative and academic activities. On August 10, the Search committee was to meet and short-list three names for the appointment of the V-C. However, the Search committee meeting was postponed due to various reasons forcing further delay in the appointment of the VC. Since the inception of the University in 2008, V. Vinayak Reddy worked as the first Registrar, later G. Lakshmaiah from 2009 to 2012, B. Badraiah from 2012 to 2014 and M. Komal Reddy from May 2014 to August 31, 2018. The University sources said that the government should appoint the regular V-C at the earliest to avoid crisis in the budding university which does not have UGC 12B recognition.

With the State government planning to go for early elections, it is high-time that the government convened the Search committee at the earliest and shortlisted candidates for the appointment of a regular Vice-Chancellor at the earliest, they stated.
