‘RTC seats should be clearly labelled’

January 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST

Until recently, the front two rows of seats in the local RTC buses were reserved for physically handicapped and senior citizens while eight rows of seats on both sides were reserved for women. However, citizens are unable to use these seats as the seats meant for senior citizens and the handicapped are not clearly painted or marked in bold. Senior citizens, therefore, feel embarrassed when they have to ask occupants to vacate seats.

Thus, many older people are forced to travel standing during the entire journey. As a large number of senior citizens travel by local buses, an appeal is being made to the managing director of the corporation to look into this grievance of senior citizens and the physically-handicapped to do the needful at the earliest.

Charminar Express delay

Charminar Express from Chennai reaches Warangal on time but thereafter, it stops at all stations, delaying its arrival at Secunderabad on most days. On January 19, it reached Secunderabad station 140 minutes behind schedule. If railway authorities cannot improve its running, they should make it a normal express train and stop levying surcharge.

Curtail encroachment of public walking places

GHMC, in coordination with the traffic police, should curb encroachment of public walking spaces by those who park their private vehicles. This is increasingly common in the city and makes walking inconvenient for pedestrians.
