The RTC Adilabad region operated 152 buses on Sunday, even as the striking employees resorted to novel protests in some depots. They held Swachh Bharat campaign near Asifabad police station and at Utnoor depot, besides conducting the ‘Vanta Varpu’ programme at Adilabad depot.

Though it was a busy day for common people owing to the large number of marriages scheduled during the day, they managed to reach their destinations without much fuss as they had apparently made their travel plans in advance. Those coming from Maharashtra also had to travel in auto-rickshaws running between important towns across the border.

Special Correspondent adds: The agitating RTC employees held Swachh Bharath and ‘Vanta Vaarpu’ programmes as part of their agitation at all the six depots in the district on Sunday. Meanwhile, the RTC management operated 191 buses on the fifth day of the strike.

Special Correspondent adds: The striking RTC employees held Swachh Bharath as part of their protest at Hanamkonda bus station on the fifth day of the agitation here on Sunday.

The employees said that their act of cleaning the bus station would show their commitment. Telangana Mazdoor Union leader E.S. Babu, Employees’ Union leader E. Venkanna and others took part in the programme.

The leaders said they still hoped that the State government would consider their demand for 43 per cent fitment on par with the other government employees. The strike went off peacefully barring some stray incidents. At Thorrur and Wardhannapet, the protesting RTC workers hurled stones at a RTC bus being driven by a temporary driver. The window panes of the bus were completely damaged and a case has been registered at Wardhannapet police station.
