Though the Uber case in the national capital managed to shake up the State Road Transport Authority (RTA) last year, 2014, however, proved to be a very fruitful year for it in terms of achievements.
With 74 lakh vehicles plying on the roads, it is no surprise that the RTA was the fourth biggest revenue earning department in Telangana, after it managed to collect Rs.1,769 crore during 2013-14. The department is also looking to modernise check posts, for which Rs.6 crore has been sanctioned.
With an average of 28,000 transactions taking place in Telangana everyday, the RTA is also looking to offer all of its services online to help citizens and make its processes easier. Officials said that the wheels will soon start rolling, as some services like collection of quarterly tax and remittances will be done online, with the latter through the cyber treasury.
Among the new initiatives that the RTA took up was the ‘She Taxi’ scheme. With women applicants approaching the department, it is planning to provide training to them for three months initially. Other details of the scheme are yet to be worked out, and will be done in coordination with the police and Women Development and Child Welfare departments.
The RTA can now also boast of having completed important projects like the integration of online data sharing with the police department for better enforcement and traffic management, and integration of online data sharing with the Insurance Information Bureau of India.
