Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao challenged the Telangana Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders to an open debate on the power demand, production and supply in Telangana. He alleged that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been preventing power supply to Telangana and advised the TDP leaders to stage protest before the residence of their party president.

“As late as yesterday, Telangana had produced only 67 million units (MU) but supplied 137 MU while Andhra Pradesh produced 69 MU but supplied only 117 MU. We are spending about Rs. 15 crore per day to procure power from market,” said Mr. Harish Rao while speaking to reporters here on Thursday along with ZP chairperson A. Rajamani and MLA Chinta Prabhakar.

Alleging that the TDP and Congress leaders were on a mission to damage the image of the Telangana Government, the Minister said that the government was making all out efforts to supply power despite non-cooperation from Andhra Pradesh Government. “We are supplying 140 MUs per day, the highest ever supply in the Telangana so far. Even last year, the Congress Government was able to supply only 113 MUs,” he said.

Mr. Harish Rao posed three questions to the TDP leaders of Telangana. These include whether it was not fact that 54 per cent of 470 MW power being produced at Lower Siler was not being shared with the Telangana, delaying the power production of 800 MU at Krishnapatnam only to avoid sharing power with the new State and not supplying 200 MW non-conventional energy to Telangana.
