June 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - WARANGAL:

Lack of coordination has been hampering the progress of ongoing civil works pertaining Pushakaralu in the district. They are unlikely to be completed by June 30 which is the deadline set by the District Collector.

Civil works

The State government has sanctioned Rs. 32 crore for civil works and Rs. 3 crore for contingency during the Pushkaralu beginning July 14. It was decided to construct bathing ghats – 500 metres on National Highway eight kilometres from Eturunagaram and – 300 metres at Ramannagudem and 500 metres at Mangapet ferry point.

The plan includes laying of roads upto river, drinking water facility, electrification, renovation of local temples around the area.

Speaking to The Hindu , Collector V. Karuna said 90 per cent works have been completed at bathing ghats and 80 per cent of works over pertaining to the roads.

“The rest will be completed within a week hopefully. The side berms of roads and renovation of temples were yet to be completed,” she said.

Metal road

The officials were directed to lay metal road from the main road to bathing ghats at Mullakatta and similarly take up strengthening of road between Royyur to Mullakatta and Rampur.

First time

They were also asked to ensure revetment along banks of Godavari. Since the Pushkaralu were being celebrated for the first time in the newly formed Telangana State, the government has taken it as a prestige and planned to make elaborate arrangements. However, due to lack of coordination among the government departments, the works were getting delayed much beyond the deadline.

Endowments Minister Indrakaran Reddy visited the sites last month and instructed the officials to ensure completion of all works by June 30. Contingency works such as erection of temporary toilets, drinking water pipes, changing rooms at bathing ghats and sanitation works were pending. They would be taken up few days before the beginning of Pushkarams, the Collector said.
