Activists owing allegiance to the farmers’ wings of the TDP, BJP and the CPI (ML-New Democracy) laid siege to the electricity sub-stations at various places in the district on Thursday as part of separate protest programmes against “erratic” power supply.

Activists of the CPI (ML-ND) staged a dharna in front of the power sub-station at Manchukonda in Raghunathapalem mandal in the morning in protest against “inconsistent” power supply to the agricultural sector.

Later, a delegation led by the party division leader G Ramaiah submitted a memorandum to the Assistant Engineer concerned demanding uninterrupted assured power supply to the agricultural pump sets and lifting of power cuts.

Activists of the Telugu Rythu staged a demonstration in front of the TSTransco SE’s office here protesting against the alleged erratic power supply. Sattupalli MLA S Venkata Veeraiah and others took part in the stir.

Addressing the dharna, Venkata Veeraiah alleged that the TRS government’s failure to provide assured consistent power supply to the agricultural sector was taking a heavy toll on the kharif prospects of the farmers in the district.

He charged the persons at the helm of affairs with focusing on encouraging defections, leaving behind critical issues like power crisis unattended. The activists of the BJP Kisan Morcha district unit organised a separate demonstration here demanding continuous power supply for seven hours in daytime to protect the standing crops in the district.
