In spite of erecting warning signs and police surveillance, swimming and other illegal activities continue at the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) reservoir on the outskirts of Karimnagar town on Sunday.

Last Monday, six schoolchildren drowned in the LMD reservoir. Later, the irrigation authorities erected signboards, warning people not to venture into the reservoir for bathing, swimming, washing clothes and vehicles etc. The district police announced the introduction of round-the-clock patrolling on the reservoir by police personnel. However, there is no surveillance by irrigation and police authorities. Police personnel make only random visits. Local residents arrive in large numbers at the reservoir on Sunday evenings. But the menace of hooligans goes unchecked.

Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar has announced Rs. 5 lakh from his MP LADS for putting up signboards bearing warnings.
