Prestigious contest on cards for MPP posts

June 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - KHAMMAM:

Keen contest appears imminent in the indirect election to the president of the Bhadrachalam Mandal Praja Parishad (MPP) with the TDP and the TRS setting their eyes on wresting the post.

Elections to the MPPs of both Bhadrachalam and Burgumpadu, the newly reorganised mandals, will be held on July 3.

Although elections to the MPTCs in both the mandals were held last year, the indirect elections to the MPP president and vice-president posts could not be held due to the transfer of several Mandal Parishad Territorial C onstituencies in the two mandals to the residuary Andhra Pradesh as per the AP Reorganisation Act.

The TDP has seven MPTCs out of the 13 MPTCs in Bhadrachalam mandal. The TDP district leadership is pinning its hopes on winning the prestigious MPP president post by virtue of its requisite numerical strength.

The CPI(M) and the CPI has two MPTCs each and the YSRCP has one MPTC in the mandal. The local TRS leaders are understood to have secured the support of the lone independent MPTC in pursuit of their efforts to wrest the MPP president as well as vice-president posts. They are reportedly engaged in hectic efforts to muster support of other MPTCs on “development” plank.

The TDP division leaders have laid focus on retaining their party MPTCs intact to emerge triumphant in the ensuing indirect election to the MPP president and vice-president posts.

Two MPTCs of the mandal, whose residences fall under the limits of the neighbouring Yetapaka in Andhra Pradesh, are expected to exercise their franchise in the election to be held on July 3.

In Burgumpadu mandal, the TDP, the YSRCP and the TRS are making unrelenting efforts to win the MPP president post.

Women represent eight of the total 16 MPTCs in Burgumpadu mandal.
