The district police have drawn up plans to encourage residential apartments to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras on their premises in the district to prevent burglaries by harnessing the sophisticated video surveillance system. The town police have already issued notices to major business establishments and other institutions in the town to install CCTV cameras as mandated by the Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act, 2013.
After organising a demonstration of the CCTV camera network system here on Wednesday, town police have sent letters on Thursday to the apartment residents’ welfare associations seeking their cooperation in prevention of property offences by installing CCTV cameras in their respective apartments.
The Bhadrachalam town police have already installed five high-resolution CCTV cameras at main junctions in the temple town to keep a tab on the movement of suspicious elements and prevent crimes. The move gained prominence in the backdrop of detection of some of the major crimes including the breakthrough achieved by the Khammam town police in the brutal murder of a six-year-old boy based on the CCTV footage last month.
The move is intended to check burglaries with the active cooperation of people, said Sarangapani, Circle Inspector, two town police station, Khammam. The CCTV network will aid in crime investigation apart from acting as a deterrent mechanism to prevent property offences.
The CCTV cameras with recording database and night vision facility will help maintain video surveillance.
