Police raid saw mill

Owners told to maintain records

A joint team of police and forest officials led by Superintendent of Police Vishnu S. Warrier on Thursday raided a saw mill in Adilabad town as part of the ongoing special drive to protect forests and wildlife in the State. The team also comprised of District Forest Officer B. Prabhakar, Forest Divisional Officer V. Chandra Shekhara Rao, DSP K. Narasimha Reddy and One Town CI V. Suresh.

Mr. Warrier told newsmen that all the seven saw mills and 24 depots across Adilabad district will be subjected to inquiries in the coming days. The owners need to main updated registers about timber stocks and transactions, he added.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the District Forest Protection Committee chaired by Collector D. Divya was also held earlier in the day. Ways and means to protect forests and joint operations by police and forest departments was discussed in addition to providing sustainable livelihood to communities depending upon forests.
