The Bhadrachalam sub-division police on Saturday claimed to have foiled a bid by Maoists to plant explosives in the Korkatpadu forest area to kill policemen with the arrest of four persons, including a CPI (Maoist) special guerrilla squad (SGS) member and a militia commander in Charla mandal.

Police sources said a joint team of policemen and the personnel of the CRPF’s CoBRA force apprehended Madakam Deva (20), an alleged member of the CPI (Maoist) SGS, and three others during combing operation in the morning.

The team seized one directional mine and one landmine besides 100 metres of electric wire, two electrical detonators and one electric battery from them.

The others nabbed during the operation are Madakam Jogaiah (21), militia commander, Podium Andha (19), militia member and Ravva Bhadra (20), militia member, police said.

The Charla police said that the Maoist SGS member and his associates were allegedly trying to plant the explosives in the Korkatpadu forest area at the “behest” of the CPI (Maoist) Telangana State committee targeting the police personnel engaged in anti-Maoist operations.

The arrested persons and the seized explosive material were presented before the media at the Charla police station.

Bhadrachalam ASP R. Bhaskaran, Venkatapuram CI A. Narender and others were present at the media conference.
