Telangana Ball Badminton Association general secretary A. Ravinder Goud has submitted a memorandum to Sports Minister T. Padma Rao Goud to include ball badminton in the list of disciplines mentioned in the recent Government Order facilitating 2% quota for outstanding sportspersons in government jobs.

“Since ball badminton is a hugely popular sport in rural areas and the State having produced many outstanding players in this discipline over the years, including the legendary Arjuna Awardee J. Pichaiah from Warangal, who is considered the father of ball badminton, we request the Government to include it in the list,” he said in the letter.

“When ball badminton is considered for admission in professional educational courses, how can it be removed from the list with regard to sports quota in Government jobs? Importantly it figures in the School Nationals and the Inter-university championships too,” the letter further read.

The Minister has promised to look into the issue.
