With lakhs of pilgrims expected to visit Bhadrachalam, the abode of Lord Sita Ramachandra Swamy, during the ensuing Godavari Pushkaralu in July this year, the Rural Water Supply (RWS) Department has devised an action plan to distribute around 14 lakh drinking water sachets among pilgrims free of cost.
Expenditure
The detailed action plan envisages provision of drinking water and sanitation facilities in Bhadrachalam and other places identified for Godavari Pushkaralu in the district, at an estimated outlay of Rs.1.40 crore.
It encompasses a slew of measures such as distribution of around 14 lakh water sachets in Bhadrachalam and seven lakh water sachets elsewhere in both Bhadrachalam and Palvancha divisions, erection of temporary taps and supply of drinking water through tankers in the areas surrounding the Pushkar bathing ghats.
The plan of action will be implemented with inter-departmental approach involving the RWS and the Public Health Departments besides, the gram panchayats concerned, sources added.
Tenders process
The tender process for execution of the proposed drinking water and sanitation works at the nine sites identified for organising the Godavari Pushkaralu in the district is presently under way, said Raghavulu, the Executive Engineer, RWS Department, Kothagudem.
A comprehensive action plan has already been prepared to ensure supply of around 21 lakh water sachets, erection of temporary taps, construction of 100 permanent and 200 temporary toilets among other facilities at the designated venues in Bhadrachalam, Parnashala and elsewhere in the district, where the Godavari Pushkaralu will be held in July this year.
Chlorination and other sanitation measures will also be taken up in the areas adjoining the bathing ghats on the banks of the river during the Pushkaralu fete as per the action plan.
This apart, the existing drinking water and sanitation facilities will be refurbished and utilised optimally.
