People of Warangal are an unhappy lot!

Promises made by the Chief Ministerremain largely unfulfilled

June 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - WARANGAL:

The TRS government has scored well on its election promise of ensuring uninterrupted power supply and by launching Mission Kakatiya programme, but people still seem to be displeased with the party.

On the occasion of the TRS government completing one year in office, people expressed mixed opinion regarding its performance and achievements. Many said that they were unhappy on the job front as no job notification was issued, as was promised by the party, and no efforts were made to streamline the universities in the State.

Kakatiya University professor M. Vidyasagar Reddy said that the government succeeded in tackling power crisis, but could not focus on appointing office-bearers, especially Vice-Chancellors, to universities. “Unemployed youth expected that a series of job notifications would be issued soon after the TRS government is formed, but that didn’t happen,” he said.

A. Prabhakar, a research scholar, said that in the absence of a regular Vice-Chancellor, the university could not streamline the PhD admissions and conduct pre-PhD examinations. “As a result, we are losing valuable time and fellowship,” he rued.

K. Yakaiah, a contract teacher in the university, said that many teachers, including him, took part in the Telangana movement and expected Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to address their problems. “I still believe that the Chief Minister will walk the talk and regularise our services. We are waiting it to happen since a year,” he said.

Many promises made by the TRS to Warangal district remain unfulfilled. The Chief Minister, during his visit to the district, promised to ensure underground drainage facility at the earliest, but noting has been done so far. He also promised new roads from mandal headquarters to district headquarters, but it still hasn’t materialised.

CPI(M) district secretary S. Vasudeva Reddy said that youth expected employment generation, more than anything else. The Chief Minister had promised to set up an integrated textile mill that would create employment opportunities and also help cotton farmers in the district. “There are many such promises housing for the poor, Kazipet wagon factory and others that are yet to be fulfilled by the TRS government,” he said.
