CPI (M) district secretary Nunna Nageswara Rao has demanded that the State government provide input subsidy of ₹ 20,000 per acre to the farmers hit by heavy rains that pounded large parts of the district in the past week.

In a statement, he said large tracts of paddy, cotton and chilli fields were submerged due to the incessant rains that battered many parts of the district in the past few days.

The rainy fury has caused extensive loss to farmers damaging their early sown crops in several mandals across the district, he said, demanding that the enumeration of crop damages should be conducted expeditiously to provide relief to the rain-hit farmers at the earliest. He said the roads suffered heavy damage in various parts of the district due to the recent heavy rains.

He wanted the authorities to carry out permanent repairs on the damaged roads to end the woes of commuters.

The sanitation situation has turned worse in several villages and towns across the district, he pointed out, calling upon the government to address the long pending demands of the striking gram panchayat workers to end their little over month-long strike.

He sought to know the rationale behind the “sudden transfer” of Khammam Municipal Commissioner (KMC) Sandeep Kumar Jha and slammed the persons at the helm for allegedly meddling in the functioning of the civic body at the behest of the ruling party local leaders.

He demanded that the transfer of the upright officer be revoked forthwith to allow him streamline the functioning of the civic body and improve civic amenities in KMC limits.
