Patriotic fervour reached a crescendo in the town on Thursday when a large Tricolour was unfurled atop a 100- foot flag mast at the Lakkaram tank bund on the occasion of the Independence Day here on Thursday.

Minister for Animal Husbandry T Srinivas Yadav hoisted the national flag after inaugurating the tall flag pole at the entry point of the picturesque tank bund in the presence of Khammam MLA P Ajay Kumar and Collector R V Karnan. Visitors thronged the venue soon after the inaugural ceremony to click pictures of the Tricolour flying high on the tall flag pole kindling the spirit of patriotism and enhancing the glory of the scenic surroundings of the Lakaram lake.The government departments concerned have drawn up plans to further beautify and add more attractions to the enchanting site to make it a major recreational spot for children and fitness enthusiasts.
