Patients in the district, on Wednesday, faced hardship following the 24-hour bandh observed by the chemists and druggists across the district in response to the call given by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) opposing the e-Pharmacy (Internet sales).
All the 1,800 medical shops, including those which were attached to the private hospitals and nursing homes in the district remained closed.
“All the chemists and druggists shut down the shops voluntarily. We gave phone numbers for the supply of emergency medicine in view of the safety of the patients suffering from critical illnesses,” according to Nalla Madhusudhan, president, the District Chemists and Druggists’ Association.
He said that business worth about Rs.2 crore was affected in the district.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Rafath Rana Afsar, an asthma patient, told The Hindu that he faced much difficulty to find medical shops to get an inhaler for the relief.
