November 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - ANANTAPUR:

Robbers targeted passengers on three trains and made away with close to fifty sovereigns of gold, near ‘outer signal’ area, known in official parlance as ‘Gooty Home Signal’, less than a kilometre from the Gooty railway junction. According to officials of the railway protection force, robbers targeted Nanded Express bound for Bangalore. The robbers boarded the train around 11 p.m. on Thursday night, as it waited for clearance near the Gooty outer signal area. They threw stones at four coaches, while some boarded the train and walked off with gold, threatening passengers with knives.

After the train left, another train, Rayalaseema Express, going to Tirupati from Hyderabad, which arrived at the same spot near the Gooty station, around 1 a.m. on Friday, was attacked by robbers as it waited for clearance. Yet again, the robbers were successful. A third train, the Bangalore bound Udyaan express, now arrived even as the Rayalaseema express left and stopped at the same spot for clearance to proceed. However, this time the robbers were not successful as police were already on the job. However, police were unsuccessful in nabbing the offenders.
