Parthi gang loots train passengers

Four members of the dreaded inter-State Parthi gang tampered with train signal, halted a Kacheguda-bound train in Mahbubnagar district and looted five passengers on Saturday.

The incident took place around 4 a.m. on Yesvantpur- Kacheguda Express train between Divitipally and Jedcherla. In less than 5 minutes, the gang snatched 37 tolas of gold ornaments, four smartphones and ₹10,000 from five passengers in S-2, S-3, S-7 and S-8 coaches.

The passenger are, N Geeta from Bengaluru, B Laxmi of Srikakulam, L Lalitha of Chikballapur in Karnataka, P Hissain Pheera and K Jayasree of Hyderabad. They were all sleeping with the windows open and the accused after tampering with the signal, stopped the train and snatched valuables. After committing the offence, the gang alighted from the train and fled on motorbikes, said G Ashok Kumar, SP, GRP, Secunderabad.

He said that when other passengers tried to catch them, the suspects pelted stones and escaped.

“Teams have been formed to nab them. We are also analysing the details of previous offenders who were involved in similar offences,” Mr Kumar said.

Speaking to the media after lodging a complaint with Kacheguda GRP, one of the victims, Geetha said that two persons clad in yellow T-shirt snatched her gold chain and handbag.

“I was sleeping on the middle berth and suddenly I realised that someone was trying to pull my chain. Soon I started screaming and tried to catch his hair, but that man managed to slip away,” she said.

The accused snatched two gold chains of her weighing 8.5 tolas and a handbag containing three mobile phones and ₹10,000.
