Old jail in Sangareddy to be art and cultural centre

V.K. Singh, DIG, Prisons, said that the old jail in Sangareddy would be transformed as cultural and art centre, which would become a visiting spot. He said that the works taken up for renovation of the jail would be completed in one and half month.

Speaking to reports here on Monday after visiting the newly constructed district jail located at Kandi and old jail located in the town, Mr. Singh said that the work had already commenced and it was expected to get completed in one and half month period and they would be spending about Rs. 20 lakh for transforming the jail into museum. “We have already collected old handcuffs and weaving machines. We will also sell products being made by jail mates so that we can generate revenue in addition to collecting an entry fee of Rs. 5 from each person who visits the jail,” he said adding that entry for school children would be free.

Earlier, visiting the district jail, Mr. Singh expressed satisfaction over growing nursery at the open space. He was accompanied by Superintendent of Police Semushi Bajpai and other senior officials.
