Northern discom bags 7 IPPAI awards

Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TSNPDCL) has bagged seven awards given by the Independent Power Producers Association of India (IPPAI) in different categories. The awards would be presented at the 22nd Regulators and Policy Makers Retreat event to be held at Belagavi in Karnataka on April 9.

According to the discom officials, they have been chosen for awards in the best performing distribution company, best state to promote renewable energy, best distribution company to promote consumer awareness, outstanding performance – utility achieving fastest rural electrification in the last decade, erection of capacitor banks and line capacitors, distributed solar generation and IRDA-GPRS enabled integrated spot billing categories.

They stated that the Northern Discom has 63 lakh consumers spread in 17 districts and they had issued 2,28,396 new domestic connections on war-footing during the last two years. As part of reducing line losses they had erected 868-11KV 2 MVAr 515 2/1 MVAr capacitor banks in 33/11KV sub-stations and 431-600 KVAr capacitors to reduce load on the 11KV feeders.

Further, to ensure accurate energy meter reading and billing to reduce errors in billing 88.32% of the consumers (connections) were installed with IRDA meters, which would also enable consumers getting information on monthly bills in the form of short messages (SMS).
