Gone are the days, when the traders selling inverters made big bucks in Karimnagar district due to unscheduled and frequent power cuts.
Now, it is the other way round. There were no takers for the inverters. Thanks to uninterrupted power supply by the Telangana governmentTill the last summer, people were forced to purchase inverters of various brands to get extended power supply during the long hours of power cuts. To ensure uninterrupted power supply to at least three fans, three tubelights for two to three hours, the consumers used to spend anywhere from Rs.10,000 to Rs. 20,000 on various brands of inverters. Afroze, a leading battery company and inverter showroom owner, said “The sales of inverters have come down drastically. We are unable to sell at least one piece a week. Expecting a huge business during summer, we bought stocks of more than Rs. 20 lakh. But, everything has been piled up as there are no takers for inverters.”
During the power cuts, each and every household were forced to purchase an inverter to get continuous power supply to beat the heat. Now, only business community is purchasing inverters for their comfort, he added.
Srinivas, a government employee, said “I feel that I wasted Rs. 20,000 on an inverter, as we are getting uninterrupted power supply in the State.”
