‘Newborn care unit a model for entire State’

National Health Mission (NHM) team leader Mahapatra said that Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) at Sangareddy stands

as a model for entire Telangana State and is suitable for imparting training for medical staff from other hospitals in this regard.

A team of NHM led by Dr. Mahapatra visited the district hospital on Sunday and examined the performance of the unit. Stating that they had visited several SNCU units across the nation, Dr. Mahapatra said that the centre at Sangareddy occupied place in the first 10 units of the nation. The team has visited the centre to examine the facilities being extended as Dr. Raheem, the head of the SNCU, applied for accreditation by National Neonatology Forum (NNF).

He also congratulated the district administration for providing required space for the unit NHM district project manager Mr. Jagannatha Reddy said that accreditation by NNF would sanction more funds for the unit which would be useful to create more facilities. The unit can also get new ambulance to shift new born babies to Hyderabad when required.

Dr. Narendrababu, District Coordinator for Hospital Services (DCHS), said that the SNCU unit would be developed as suggested by the Central team.
