New facilities opened at Laknavaram

The pristine Laknavaram lake now has more feathers in its cap – cottages, a viewing tower and pantry, and regular boat to ferry nature lovers from the main banks to the island amidst the serene waters, which were all inaugurated on Saturday.

Surrounded by green hills, it already is known for 160 metre hanging bridge that is drawing huge crowds from some time now.

The lake is spread over 10,000 acres and is an idyllic spot at a distance of 75 kms. from the Warangal district headquarters. The drive from Rangapur village to Bussapur, cutting through the thick forests before reaching the sprawling lake, offers a great experience to tourists. The lake is one of the engineering marvels of erstwhile Kakatiya kings who ruled the area eight centuries ago.

Tribal Affairs Minister A. Chandulal, TSTDC chairman P. Ramulu, Secretary Christina Z Chongthu, district Collector Vakati Karuna and others took part in the inaugural of new facilities. They said the flow of tourists increased by 30 per cent during the past two years. The State Government would focus more on tourism development and strive to create local employment, they said.
