No hike in TSRTC fares, says Transport Minister

Minister for Transport P. Mahender Reddy has made it very clear that though the TSRTC has been in losses, the government has no intention to increase bus fares.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said that the corporation is in losses to the tune of Rs.234 crore by the end of last monthEvery day, the corporation gets an income of Rs.11.10 crore, but its expenditure is Rs.12.35 crore, resulting in the net loss of Rs.1.25 crore, he said.

As many as 16 Indra and Garuda buses, 20 super luxury and 470 Palle Velugu services would join the fleet of buses shortly, he said. To enable the RTC come out of losses, the government had given guarantee to an amount of Rs.500 crore borrowed by the management, he said.

Appealing to passengers to travel in RTC buses for their safety, the Minister said bringing the corporation into profits is largely on the shoulders of its employees. People should also cooperate for its expansion and development, he said.

Mr. Reddy gave away commendation certificates to best drivers, conductors and other staff. Mayor Akula Sujatha, MLCs V.G. Goud and Akula Lalitha, MLA Bigala Ganesh Gupta, Zilla Parishad Chairman D. Raju, RTC Joint Managing Director G.V. Ramana Rao, RM B. Ramakanth and Deputy Transport Commissioner Prameela were also present on the occasion.
